• Question: What happens when you get a brain freeze and why does it hurt?

      When you eat or drink something very cold too fast it quickly cools down the back of your throat. This is where the arteries that give your brain blood are. When they feel the cold they change shape, the brain things this is a signal for pains, so you get a sore head. Usually this only lasts a few seconds, as the brain realises that you are not in pain.
